Welcome to the Year 1 class page!
My name is Miss Muirhead and I will be teaching Year 1 this year. Our wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Brannon, Miss Hooper, Mrs Lee and Mrs MacFarlin are looking forward to working with the children and supporting their learning throughout the year.
Our PE day is Tuesday. We will be going down to the forest on Friday afternoons so please send your child into school with their forest school clothes in a named bag on this day.
Homework is set on a Tuesday and should be returned the following Monday. Reading is an essential skill that we continue to learn and develop in Year 1. Your child will be sent home with a reading book each week to consolidate their phonic skills. We ask that your child reads for 10 minutes daily to practise what they have been learning in school.
Reading books will be collected in on a Thursday and new ones will be issued on a Friday.
You can access information about our curriculum and the end of year expectations at the bottom of our page. We hope you enjoy looking at what we have been doing and learning together!
Please do not hesitate to contact me via Class Dojo if you have any queries.
Music- Composing
We are enjoying having the opportunity to perform our own compositions in class. We have composed pieces of music using body percussion, instruments and glockenspiels. Watch this space for our performance of our unit song 'Hey You!'.
RE- Interfaith Week
We celebrated Interfaith Week by learning all about Hinduism. We focused on finding out about the story of Krishna and created our own Krishna crowns.
Maths- Number Lines
We enjoyed taking our learning outside and creating number lines outside with chalk.
Maths- Finding Number Bonds
We used cubes to find and write number bonds within 10.
Art- Penguin Models
We used clay to make models of penguins. We let them dry, painted them and then covered them in varnish to make them shiny.
Art- Printing
We worked in groups to produce lovely pieces of art by printing autumn leaves.
Forest School- Counting
The children enjoyed practising their counting skills down at the forest. Well done Year 1!
Science- Blackpool Zoo
We loved visiting Blackpool Zoo as part of our topic, 'Penguins, Possums and PIgs.' We saw lots of different animals and were even lucky enough to get so close to a shy, baby gorilla!
