Welcome to Year 1
Miss Williams welcomes you to our Year One class page.
Here you will find useful information; ways to assist your child at home and the exciting topics we will cover.
Reading
We are super readers and to help us to do our best in school we need to read at home every night. Please help by hearing your child read aloud. Book change is every Thursday, please ensure that your child brings their book bag, reading book and reading record to school every day.
Homework
Will be sent out every Tuesday and returned the following Monday. Mathematics and Phonics is given out consisting of a discovery sheet for mathematics/games and words to read. Please ensure that you practise the words several times a week as children need to know them by heart. Again, little and often is best.
PE Lessons
Will take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. The children frequently run on our running track encircling the field.
Outdoor Learning and Forest School
Our outdoor spaces have many holistic benefits for children's learning and well-being. Our children love taking their learning outdoors especially Forest School, it is evident in their enthusiasm and excitement. Please send appropriate clothing on these days e.g. hats, gloves, warm clothing, T-Shirts (weather permitting), wellies and a suitable coat.
Mathematics - Numbers to 10
We can sort, group, count and represent numbers to 10 in a variety of ways. Our tens frame and counters helped us to solve simple problems.
English - Role Play - Speaking and Listening
The children in year 1 challenged themselves through the story of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.
They showed creativity and depth of understanding by acting out their version of the story enhancing it further with the use of puppets.
Outdoor Learning - Mathematics
Children have shown enthusiasm during outdoor learning sessions, especially through engaging games and focused on the concepts of one more and one less.
Art and Clay Lessons
Children have been learning to roll clay into a ball, as well as pinching, squeezing and moulding it into shapes. They are growing in confidence and enthusiasm when practising these skills, as they work towards creating a penguin sculpture.
